Room 315 [Monday morning]

Mara opened her eyes and instantly recognized the room she was in, which was a good sign. She didn't recognize it from this side of the room, though, which was a bad, bad sign.

Wincing internally, she carefully rolled over (two people did not fit comfortably in a twin bed) and glanced at the other occupant of it.

Greeeeeeeeat. Good morning, Johnny. Mara closed her eyes again and contemplated her options: could she fake amnesia again? For the next few years? Kill him as he slept?

Echuta.

She went with the easiest option at the moment: closing her eyes again and pretending this hadn't happened. Mmmm, denial.

When Johnny first woke up, his main focus was on how much his head hurt because that was a lot of rum yesterday. The last time he had that much to drink was probably with Thor after the Gah Lak Tus thing.

That led to the second focus. Hey, he could remember stuff from before the weekend again! That was a good thing!

But then he couldn't put the third thing out of his mind anymore, because he also remembered how yesterday ended and who was next to him right now. "Hey, Mara. Are you awake?" He kind of wanted the answer to be no, but that would just be delaying the inevitable. Also, if she said no, she'd be a liar.

"No," Mara lied. "I talk in my sleep."

"That sounds like a lie," Johnny pointed out. "If it was, then good morning. Maybe? Kinda?"

"Is this a good morning?" Mara asked, cracking an eye open. She hadn't decided yet. It was certainly one of the more awkward of her life.

"Compared to some mornings I've had," Johnny said. "And at least last night was fun. So there's that."

Mara blushed bright red. "It was."

Well, that felt good to hear.

"Good. So, um, I've never done that with anyone I've lived with before. I'm guessing it could get kind of awkward. I don't know about you, but I think we should just not let it be awkward and see how that works out."

A stunning strategy proposed by Johnny Storm.

Mara nodded vehemently. "I think that's a good idea."

Better than her sudden amnesia again idea, at least.

"Okay, good," Johnny said. "So, I think I'm going to get up and put some pants on, because I think it's still going to be a little awkward until I do. I only mention that so you're not surprised when you see everything I've got. Again, I guess."

Keeping it not awkward.

Mara winced slightly. "I'll keep my eyes closed?" she offered.

"Well, you could look if you wanted," Johnny half-joked. "I won't complain about that."

With that, he got up, grabbed his jeans off the floor, and pulled them up quickly. "Okay, I'm decent below the waist. I'll stay turned around if you want to make a break for your clothes."

"Thank you," Mara said, trying for all the dignity her five-foot-nothing self could project as she...basically skittered across the room and all but dove into her closet for clothing.

"So I'm guessing this isn't something you do a lot?" Johnny asked, heading back to his bed now that Mara was in her closet. "I mean, you were good at it, high marks, I had a great time. But you don't strike me as somebody who makes a habit of going to parties and hooking up."

"Not really my thing, no," Mara said, shimmying into the nearest black jumpsuit. "Back home, the parties tend to be a much older crowd."

And ew.

"Not so much cougars as really old lions?" Johnny checked. "Well, there's something to be said for a regular high school. At least if you do something spontaneous, it'll probably be with someone close to your age. Um. Not that I'm looking to spontaneously hook up with a bunch of girls."

That was kind of a lie, but he was at least trying to suggest that he wasn't a complete manslut.

Mara smiled at him, blushing lightly. "That's a excellent point."

And the boys here were so much better looking than the Grand Moffs.

"I like to think I'm full of them," Johnny said.

"I was thinking I might go get some coffee to help out with the revenge of yesterday's rum. Do you want me to pick up anything, or do you want to come with, or...?" He almost threw in 'stick around here and mess around' as a joke, but he figured that would be a bad idea to suggest.

"You're full of something," Mara said, but her tone was teasing as she met his eyes. "Caf would be great. You're sure you don't mind me tagging along?"

Wouldn't be the first time someone told him that. "Not at all. I'm a people person, and I even like spending time with you with our clothes on. Speaking of which, I need a shirt."

Johnny rolled off his bed and made his way to his closet where he very carefully picked whatever was closest to his hand.

Mara covertly ogled him as he did so because she wasn't blind. "Hot coffee on a bare chest just seems like a bad combination," she said, nodding.

"Actually, it wouldn't bother me," Johnny said. "Torch powers. I'm heat-resistant. But it's slightly classier to wear a shirt in a coffee shop, and if there's one thing I strive for, it's to be slightly classy."

Mara burst out laughing. "It's important to set achievable goals," she agreed.

Johnny pulled the shirt on and slipped a pair of flip flops on his feet. "That's the way I look at it," he said. "Okay, let's get going. That coffee is desperately needed."

"Yes," Mara agreed vehemently, making sure her pockets had identification, money, and a paper that told her what room she lived in before heading for the door.

She was going to be paranoid for a while.
